As missionaries in the Texas Houston South Mission, we know our purpose is to invite others to come unto Christ, by helping them receive the restored gospel through faith in Jesus Christ and His atonement, repentance, baptism, Gift of the Holy Ghost and enduring to the end. We do this through our constant efforts to find, teach, invite, retain, and activate God’s children; we love it, we live it, and we do it! We begin with the “End in Mind”, and see God’s children as he does. We are Disciples of Jesus Christ and the best missionaries in the world!
Elders and Sisters, how we love you! I sat in the temple with President Crane last Thursday night and my heart was filled with joy because of you. You are God’s servants, disciples of Christ, and when I think of what you are laying upon the altar to serve I get a small glimpse of how our Father in Heaven sees you. You bless me, thank you!
Last Sunday night we had our six stake presidents and President Crane in our home for dinner. It was a wonderful evening and they love you! We discussed the work in our area and we all recognize that as we work together we will see the Lord hasten his work. In our conversation we discussed how important it is to see our investigators not only come to the waters of baptism, but to attend the temple shortly after. Many of you have caught this vision and see the blessings of your converts firmly committed to their faith.
To further the work I feel inspired to make sure you all have a love for your bishops, ward mission leaders, and the members we are blessed to serve with. We must recognize that we are one Church, one effort, and one Gospel. These men and women have busy lives, challenges at work and home, and yet sacrifice and serve the best they are able. Please be patient, love them, help them, and bless them! Like you, they are the Lord’s anointed and it is unwise for us to speak evil of them in any way. If you need to repent, please do! ;)
The stake presidents and I are committed to work together and help the work move forward at an accelerated pace. Each ward or branch has a mission leader that has been called to further the work in his assigned area. These brethren need to become your best friends! If you hope to find, teach, invite, retain, and activate and be full purpose in your efforts, you must be one with them. We need to earn their trust by showing that we are there to help them, bless them, and assist them in their calling.
We have a remarkable tool given to us in our missionary efforts to make this happen; the investigator progress record (yes you should use it!). Not only is this tool the way to help you coordinate with the ward mission leaders, but it also helps you ensure that the bishop can use his inspired keys to assign a member friend and lead them towards the temple. Will you please all commit to me that you will use this tool faithfully and share it weekly (if not more often) with your ward mission leader and bishop? It should be a focus of every ward council and your thoughtful preparation and use of it will bless your work, the ward, and your investigators.
The additional tool that should be used without fail is the TEACHING RECORD. This is a must to receive guidance and inspiration as you teach your investigators. In your weekly and nightly planning it should be right at your side. The Lord will inspire you on what to teach, when to teach, and how to make sure you meet the investigators needs. We TEACH PEOPLE, NOT LESSONS! The teaching record will bring inspiration, I promise you. Will you please all commit to me that you will use the teaching record faithfully?
Both the investigator progress record and teaching record are important in your goal setting and planning. “Prove me now herewith, saith the Lord of hosts, if I will not open you the windows of heaven, and pour you out a blessing, that there shall not be room enough to receive it.” Many of you have caught the vision of setting a goal and making a plan. Test the Lord’s promise and see if the same is true for you
We love you, love you, love you. You are set apart and endowed with power. Use it to bless, love and serve!
For this week will you report to me on the following
1. How often are you meeting with your ward mission leader (be honest :)?
2. Are your investigator progress records being used in ward council?
3. Are you attending the entire ward council meeting and staying anxiously engaged in the discussion?
4. What will you do this week to show your love to the ward mission leader and bishop?
Message from Sister Hall
Elders & Sisters, Sunday night I did my best to conquer my fears and demonstrate my faith. I was invited to bear my testimony with President Hall at an investigator and new convert fireside in Spanish!!! This is scary for me! I am just learning and don’t speak Spanish very well and was beyond nervous. Here’s the thing, it wasn’t too bad and I would do it again! I had pryaed that I’d at least be able to communicate the feelings of my heart. My testimony was simple, but I testified of truths I know. The same is true for all of us. If you fear opening your mouth, you don’t grow. If you fear inviting with faith, your investigators don’t progress. Don’t let your fear take away the power and authority you’ve been blessed with! We love you, Sister Hall
Weekly Mission Update
Elders and Sisters, we were blessed to have 6 souls enter the waters of baptism this week and receive a remission of their sins. There are many more prepared, waiting for you to find. Let’s finish the last week of July doing all we can to help our investigators receive the blessings prepared for them. I’d also like you to start thinking and planning your goal for August. Go forth and FIND, TEACH, INVITE, RETAIN, & ACTIVATE! We are full purpose missionaries, let’s demonstrate our faith and invite all to come unto Christ.
We love you, make it a great week!
